Trinity Business Centre Pairs Up With Hazel Blears To Help Kids Without Connections

The Kids Without Connections project, co-founded by MP for Eccles and Salford Hazel Blears and Salford City College’s Trinity Business Training, is designed to give Salford’s youngest potential workers a foot in the door of the employment market by providing them with top work placements.
The project encourages Salford businesses to offer unpaid work experience to residents aged 16 – 24 over the summer months.
Blears said, “I have found it really frustrating to hear that lots of young people in Salford and Eccles are struggling to find work. They tell me that they apply for plenty of jobs but aren’t offered interviews because employers want people with experience and it’s hard to get work experience if you don’t have the right contacts.”
Trinity Business Training will provide support for participating businesses and will also act as an advocate for the young people on the work placements. Nicola Merriman, Project Manager at Trinity Business Centre, said “The Kids Without Connections project is a great opportunity to help young people in Salford gain access to the workplace by securing much desired work experience. We have received an outstanding level of interest from local businesses who have pledged their commitment to the project.”
Following on from an interview day recently held at Salford City College’s City Campus Skills Centre, the young candidates will be partnered with their perfect work placement, which can last for up to four weeks.
Tina Bird, from Irlam’s Community Outreach Hub, said “With so many young people in Salford either unemployed or fearful about whether they will be able to get a job, this kind of scheme is enormously important.”
