Professional (Graduate) Diploma in Education (PGDE/PDE)
The Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) are courses of teacher training for the Learning and Skills Sector which are run by Salford City College in partnership with the University of Bolton. These are new qualifications which replace the PGCE/Cert Ed and are the first step towards claiming QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) status. Please note that this course does not lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to teach in schools.
These courses are offered on a part-time basis at the Walkden Centre.
Contents
The course comprises of seven modules; four in Phase 1 and three in Phase 2 of the course. In addition, there is a requirement to undertake a minimum of 150 hours of teaching practice (75 hours for each year of the two year part time course). Current modules include:

Introduction to Teaching and Learning

Teaching and Learning Theory and Practice
Phase 2: Curriculum Development and Professional Contexts

Continuing Personal and Professional Development
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold at least a Level 3 qualification (or possibly a degree depending on subject) in their subject area. Candidates wishing to teach vocational subjects will be required to have relevant work experience in the areas in which they are applying to teach.

Tuition fees are payable to the University of Bolton. Tax free training bursaries may be available in some circumstances and financial support may be obtained via Student Finance England.
The course runs for either 4 or 8 hours a week for 30 weeks.
