Advanced Certificate In Therapeutic Hypnosis Counselling
A developmental course for suitable qualified and experienced practitioners who want to integrate hypnotherapy approached into current parctise or establish a seperate Hypnotherapy practice.
Certificate in Sexual Minority Therapy CounsellingA developmental course for suitably qualified and trainee practitioners who want to integrate Sexual Minority Therapy approaches into current practice. The course runs over 10 weeks.
In 2003 Mind published the UK’s first report looking at the mental health and wellbeing of gay, lesbian and bisexual people in England and Wales. The report found that people identifying as belonging to a sexual minority (i.e. non-heterosexual) reported more psychological distress than heterosexuals and are therefore more likely to seek support such as counselling.
Do you have clients presenting themselves for counselling who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or another sexual minority? If so, do you feel confident you have sufficient knowledge and training to work competently with sexual minority clients?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - CertificateA development training for qualified counsellors who wish to undertake learning in the theory and practice of CBT for professional development.
This course is delivered for 90 hours at the Worsley Campus.
The course will cover:
Theoretical developments in CBT
Practical applications
Contemporary perspectives
You need to have an 80% attendance to qualify, show aptitude and ability and complete three assignments (3,000 words).

Counselling Children and Young People CertificateThe course will provide a brief historical background of current counselling provision available for young people in this country and how specific legislation like the Mental Health Foundation report (2006), The Tyler report (1978), The Thompson report (1982) and recently current legislation relating to the safeguarding of vulnerable groups (2006), and how this legislation has influenced the counselling provision available to our young people of today.
The course will consider childrens place in society and issues such as confidentiality, accessibility, the child counsellor relationship and the Children Act.
Counselling Concepts - CertificateThe course is externally validated by A.B.C. the aim of the course is to offer an insight into counselling. The objective is to allow students to engage in basic counselling skills and to critically examine personal potential in the role of counsellor. The course is offered both day and evening 1.00 to 4.00 or 6.00 to 9.00. Sessions are 3 hours and you will complete a minimum of 30 guided learning hours.
Learning Methods
The course content will be delivered using an experiemental, participative approach rather than a didactic one, Students will be encouraged to take resposnibility for their own learning throughout the course and in particular by keeping their own 'personal learnign journals'.

Examining counselling within the context of helping professions
Development of basic counselling skills
Self examination and self-reflection

The course consists of 3 units:
1. An appreciation of the basics of counselling, the professional context and relationship
2. An introduction to counselling skills
3. An introduction of personal development
Units 1 and 2 will be assessed by your tutor but self-evaluation and peer feedback will also form part of the assessment of these units.
Unit 3 will be an extended piece of reflective writing, which will be marked by an ABC examiner using a summary mark sheet.

Diploma In Theory And Practice Of CounsellingThis course is validated by A.B.C. The aim of the course is to offer a comprehensive training to developing counselling practioners and those who wish to become professional practioners. The course is offered day and evening 10.00 to 3.00 or 4.00 to 9.00 over two years. A compulsory residential weekend each year is a necessary requirement.

Assessment
Students must achieve 80% attedance throughout the course
Complete a minimum of 100 hours supervised placement practice
Successfully complete 9 x 2/3000 word assignments by the end of the course
Demonstrate ongoing commitment to an experimental and interactive learning climate
Complete and externally examined portfolio.
A compulsory residential weekend is a necessary requirement. You may be eligible for financial support from the learner support fund to assist with the cost of this.

Level 3 Certificate In Counselling SkillsThis course is externally validated by A.B.C. who are a national counsellor training awarding body. The aim of the course is to offer workers in the public, private and voluntary sector the opportunity to develop a wide range of counselling skills. It also provides a progressive intermediate training for those who wish to train to become professional counsellors.

Because Counsellor Training is demanding, it is essential that students can demonstrate an appropriate measure of psychological and psychosocial stability in this respect applicants must make tutors aware of any current treatment programme that could conflict with student status on a counselling course.
Assessment
Students must achieve 80% attendance throughout the course
Demonstrate competency and confidence in the use of core skills
Demonstrate qualities essential to counselling practice
Successfully complete a range of written assignments that consider theory, practice and personal development
Produce a practical tape recording that reflects the effective use of core skills
Produce a personal journal that offers critical self-examination.
