Adult Course - Information
Access to Higher Education
Access To Higher Education (1 Year)
What is the Access to HE Diploma course?
Access courses are a Level 3 programme of study and are designed to prepare adult students for study at university. They are aimed at people who would like to study at university but who left school without the usual qualifications, such as ‘A’ levels. Many Access to HE Diploma students go on to succeed at university and beyond, with a large number of learners pursuing new careers in a variety of directions.
How Long?
At the moment, the Access course is offered on a full-time basis only (which amounts to approximately 15 hours per week).
What can I study?
The Access programme offers three pathways. These are:
• Nursing and Midwifery
• Science
• Education and Humanities
Within each pathway, there are a variety of compulsory (including Numeracy and Communication skills) and optional subjects which students will study based on their choice of pathway. However, it must be pointed out at this stage that many universities prefer GCSE Maths and English (this is a requirement for Teaching). Midwifery is a highly competitive area and GCSEs in Maths and English will be looked upon favourably if you are considering pursuing a career in this field. Remember: the Access course does not guarantee a university place – many factors will influence your chances of being accepted such as performance at interview, availability of places, commitment to study and so on.
This course is based at Walkden and De La Salle centres.
Pre Access To Higher EducationThis course is for those who need to do a course to prepare them for the main access to Higher Education route.
On completion of this course students would be able to apply for the main access course.
