Apprentice Rises Through The Ranks
One of the first apprentices to be employed by Salford City College and trained through Trinity Business Training
has gained a top job with Greater Manchester Police Authority.
Elisabeth Hindle has been an apprentice with Trinity since February 2010, when she gained a place on the new apprenticeship
programme offered by the business training centre, through employment at Salford City College.
Originally an A-Level student at the college, Elisabeth discovered in her first year that academic study was not her preferred
method of learning and she decided to change direction to find a more vocational route to follow. The former Walkden High
School student then gained temporary employment in an administrative role with Bolton Council before learning about the
apprenticeship opportunities available through Trinity, via the national careers service, Connexions.
Elisabeth was employed by Salford City College in an administrative role at the college’s City Campus Skills Centre,
where she has been responsible for looking after the administrative duties of the Centre Principals at the centre.
Along with this, through Trinity, Elisabeth has been studying an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration, supported by
Rachael Holt, Trinity’s Apprenticeship Coordinator.
After showing excellent talents in her role and her studies, 18 year-old Elisabeth was able to complete her Level 2 portfolio
with ease and was able to take the opportunity to seek further employment and career progression. She is now due to begin
employment with Greater Manchester Police Authority, where she will serve as an Administrative Assistant whilst also continuing
her studies with an NVQ Level 3, delivered by Trinity.
Elisabeth commented on her time as an apprentice with Trinity, saying: “All the skills I needed for my application to the police
authority job I had learnt during my studies as an apprentice. It has given me great security for the future, both in the
skills I have learnt and the confidence I have gained.
"I really enjoyed studying my Level 2 whilst working for the college and had fantastic support from Rachael at Trinity.
If ever there was anything I needed help with, Rachael would be on hand to offer extra support sessions and one to one
interviews."
Rachael Holt, who has been responsible for all ten of the apprentices currently employed at the college, said Elisabeth’s
progress was excellent: "Elisabeth has been an exemplary apprentice and a joy to work with. I wish her all the best for
the future and am sure that she will be successful in whatever she chooses to do. She is an excellent example of the
opportunities that are available for apprentices, and evidence that an academic course of study is not the only option for
young people today."
